The New Zealand women have put up a promising fight against the Olympic bronze medalist and current world number 4 Aussie Stingers. The Kiwis kept in touch of Australia in the first quarter, with Emma Stoneman and Jasmine Myles leveling once each to the applause of a sizeable crowd at West Wave.
The second quarter was again a weak-spot for New Zealand and déjà vu took its place as Australia - just like Canada had done 24 hours earlier - put five unanswered goals in the back of the net.
New Zealand's second half defence was more than impressive with Brooke Millar making numerous saves and trouble for the Stingers. The Kiwis failed to convert on a few brilliant opportunities in front of goal in the last quarter, but it was an overall solid effort from the new-look New Zealand side.

"I think it was a little similar to yesterday. Playing one of the best teams in the tournament is always hard. Our defensive game was pretty good, but attack, we are still working on.” said New Zealand coach Attila Biro.
Goalkeeper Katherine Curnow agreed; "We had really good defence. We had a goal to keep them under 10. I am really happy with the girls. Now we just need to focus on our attack.”
Goals by quarter 2-3, 0-5, 0-1, 0-1
