How do you manage to juggle work, study, training, social life etc./any wise words for aspiring water polo players?

I really rely on my family, friends, and teammates to get me through. We are all trying to balance our lives and maintain a healthy wellbeing. Having positive people surrounding you, that are experiencing the same thing makes things a lot easier. Like with anything, practice makes perfect. Once you learn how to cope, things become nearly natural.

When did you start playing water polo?

I started playing when I was 12 years old.

What is your favourite water polo memory at home?

My final school season with Rangitoto College was one of the best experiences I've had in my water polo career thus far. My school team had grown up together, and we had developed into a very strong group and unit. We were unbeaten all year and took out nationals. Felt amazing to finish school water polo on such a strong note.

What has been your international water polo highlight?

Winning the School Girls series against Australia in 2011. Probably one of the sweetest victories I've experienced.

What time does your alarm go off in the morning and what gets you out of bed?

5:15am. I try and keep a positive attitude when waking up that early by thinking about all those other people in the world that get up even earlier than me and have to work/train for strenuous hours. Having the freedom and access to train is a privilege, not a sacrifice - thats what I remind myself.

Tell us your favourite go-to pre-match pump up jam.

Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen.

What are you looking to accomplish in water polo? Why do you play?

To be successful. To me, this is not measured by wins or goals but rather having the self-satisfaction in knowing that I have given my best and reached the best I can be in my water polo career. Success also entitles the fun experiences and relationships you make on the way.

What is the biggest barrier for you playing water polo?

It would have to be lack of financial funding. Working or studying full time takes away opportunity to train, but is needed to support ourselves. Having potential and talent is not what New Zealand water polo lacks. We lack the funds that will push us past the competitive threshold from being a amateur program to a strong professional one.

What has New Zealand Water Polo given you personally?

I have been able to travel to all different parts of the world and compete in world class competitions that have opened my eyes up to the best athletes and teams in the world.
